In September (a day after my 21st Birthday!) I will be running the Great North Run in memory of my 2 wonderful Grandads who sadly passed away in August 2016 after a devastating few months for us all.
'The number of men dying from prostate cancer has overtaken female deaths from breast cancer for the first time in the UK' - this has recently hit the news and I think people are shocked at these figures. They shouldn't be... Prostate Cancer has never been as freely spoken about as Breast Cancer and we need to shout about it. This is why I am challenging myself to do this, to raise money and most importantly raise the awareness it needs!
I ask you all to please research Prostate Cancer and I encourage both men and women to encourage the men in their lives to go to the doctors and ask for a check! 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in their life time and 4 in 10 will be diagnosed at a late stage, please do not let yourselves be one of those 4.
If you would like to, please donate on this page no matter how big or small, every little helps and I would be so very grateful.
– the price of one pair of socks
Could pay for one hour of a research assistant's time, providing valuable support in laboratory settings and helping research projects run smoothly.
– the cost of one of our hoodies
Could pay for 350 ‘Know your prostate’ pocket guides helping us make more men aware of their risk of prostate cancer and where they can go for support.
- Could pay for the analysis of four tissue samples allowing scientists to understand more about prostate cancer and how it can develop in men. Using a sample from a man’s first biopsy to work out the individual make-up of his prostate cancer could help clinicians decide what treatment is most likely to work for him.
Thank you all so much for taking your time out to read this. If you have any questions, please just message me!
Now I'm off to start my training... wish me luck x
